About Ol’ Bushwhacker
Ol’ Bushwhacker is one of the easiest rapids on the Upper Klamath, and arguably one of the most fun. It’s a straight shot down the middle wave train. You can see the entire rapid start to finish from the entrance, so there are no lingering rocks or holes around the bend like other Upper Klamath rapids. What makes it a crowd favorite though is that 2/3s of the way through the wave train, one of the waves is enormous and will bury everyone in the raft with water. You’ll know which wave it is when you enter, as it will haystack occasionally but will never fully break.
Commercial rafting companies will often have someone ride the bull through this one. Don’t forget to remind people to fall backwards into the raft if they lose their grip, rather than into the water.
