This is a very scenic section of the river, where the water pools up and the canyon is abrupt. The name is for Andy Huggins, who was the original homesteader of Half Moon Bar, a half mile upstream.
From the USFS Rogue River Trail Guide: “This section of the Rogue was named by Glen Wooldridge after a local hunter, Andy Huggins. Huggins lived for many years at Half Moon Bar and his grave is also at Half Moon Bar, on the south side of the river.”
