About Upper Jackass
This is a decent camp with a nice amount of space, immediately downstream of Jackass Rapid. At medium to high flows this camp can be hard to catch as there is not much of an eddy here, so be ready for a fast landing. There are many tent sites in the trees behind the cobble bar. There is usually a kitchen spot flattened out at the top of the cobbles to minimize carry and impact. Most groups put the groover upstream.
The Middle Fork trail is on this side of the river at this point so there is decent hiking here.
If you’re fishing, head down river following the Middle Fork trail and you will typically come across logs piled up on river right that make for decent fishing holes.
