About June Bug Camp
This is a hard to spot, small camp, just upstream of Deer Creek Falls.
The name is for June Jordan, whose nickname was June Bug. She was married to Jimmy Jordan who completed the first outboard motorboat trip down the Grand Canyon. The boat that completed this trip in 1951 was named June Bug as well. Junebug vs. June Bug spelling
The NPS spells this camp as Junebug (one word) but looking into the history of the name it appears it should be spelled as June Bug. You can see in this photograph that Jimmy Jordan’s boat has the spelling as two words.
