How to run Iron Ring Rapid

Iron Ring Rapid run right is one of the most fun rapids on the Gauley River and consists of two back-to-back large drops. The key is hit the first wave correctly, and then the second wave will be a lot more forgiving. We strongly recommend scouting Iron Ring, which can easily be done on river left Most boaters enter this rapid on the far left side of the river and work towards the right. The first wave is a bit of a V-wave, so T it up, then work right to avoid the second hole. You don’t want to stay too far left, as there is a nasty rock garden on the left side. If you run this rapid correctly, the river will do a lot of the work for you!
