How to run Insignificant Rapid

Insignificant Rapid is the first Class V on the Gauley River. The main feature you are watching out for is the large, unforgiving hydraulic in the center of the channel. You’ll want to stay left or right of this big feature. Left is the ideal line, but requires a lot of work. Right also works, but the current after this point pushes you towards a large undercut rock on the right exit of this rapid. The entrance to this rapid can be a bit tricky, with many rocks to watch out for. Most boaters will try to enter to the left side of the channel and continue working hard left to stay away from the undercut boulder on the right. Unfortunately, you can’t go too far left, or you’ll go over a nasty pourover. All in all, it’s a tight, fast, and tricky rapid.
