About Tappan Island Camp
The joke that Tappan Island has good but short hiking will get old quick but at least it’s true. Islands are rare on the Middle Fork of the Salmon and this is the only one that provides camping. This is a nice camp as you’re in the middle of Tappan Canyon and there’s room to spread out.
At higher flows, you can go river left around the island and park towards the top. Once the water comes down, you’ll have to go to the right around the island and camp towards the bottom of it. Parking can be tricky so it’s best to have one person land, tie off, and then help catch rafts as they come in.
