How to run Ski Jump Rapid
At regular flows and lower, Ski Jump rapid features a large rock that gives the appearance of a ski jump as you float towards it. The line is to go left. You may have to ship an oar here and you’ll likely have to make some raft angle adjustments as the current is very swirly, but besides that, it’s no big deal.
At high flows, this rock becomes a huge boat flipping feature and can catch boaters unaware as they are likely used to Ski Jump being nothing to think about at lower flows. Compounding the problem is the river is channelized here so pulling over to scout a short distance away is challenging. Your best option to scout is to pull over at Marble Left, approximately half a mile upstream, and hiking down. Run far right at high flows.
