To get to Ship Island Camp, you’ll pass by the gorgeous creek tumbling in on the left, Papoose, and immediately below that, Papoose camp, which isn’t much more than a small beach. Ship Island is located just downstream from this also on river left, and is in slightly faster moving water. Across the river is the camps namesake, Ship Island Creek. The creeks name originates from its headwaters, Ship Island Lake, which has a small island on it with the trees on the island giving it the appears or an old ship. So the story goes, at least.
The camping area is obvious, with tent sites moving downstream. Kitchen and hangout zone is upstream, closer to the rafts, allowing for an easier carry.
