About Satan’s Cesspool
Class III. This is one of the photo rapids for the Gorge run – you’ll often see photographers here.
A rock shelf coming from river right pinches the river. A large lateral hit comes off this shelf. T up this lateral and be prepared for it to turn your boat slightly to the right. Another straightforward hit lurks behind that first lateral. This constriction in the river results in some swirly water below the waves.
At flows around 4000 cfs, the water gets very pushy towards the left wall. This flow is known to be a bit flippy. At flows above 6000 cfs the center island gets covered and the waves mellow back out, but a river right eddy line below the waves gets tumultuous.
There is a back board tied to the river’s left shore below this rapid.
