Shinumo Wash is a large, very pretty camp. The left shoreline just upstream from the raft parking area often has plenty of firewood. This camp doesn’t get much direct sunlight during the winter months. Hiking into Shinumo Wash is pleasant, but you won’t get very far before the canyon becomes impassable. Shinumo is a Pauite word in reference to the former inhabitants of this area. Nancy Brian, who wrote River to Rim, expands on this as meaning “cliff dwellers.”
