About Below Matkat Camp
Below Matkat is the better of the Matkats, in our opinion. Look for two large rocks protruding from shore and you know you’re there. The upper rock is the ‘boundary’ between the two ‘kats and the lower rock has good boat parking immediately above and below this rock. There are plenty of tent spaces up and downstream, with the kitchen between the two. It makes more sense to stick the groover down river as then you won’t have to deal with pushing into the other campground. Watch out for getting beached overnight on the shallow rocks at the top of the pull-in eddy.During the winter months, both Matkat and Below Matkat receive zero direct sunlight.
This camp sets you up really well for Upset Rapid, which is just a mile downstream.
