About Dos Montañas Gorge

Dos Montañas Gorge is an iconic section of the Pacuare River. Immediately following Dos Montanas Rapid, this short canyon is not very wide and features waterfalls tumbling in off the high cliffs and a swinging bridge crossing the canyon. It’s one of the most photographed spots on the Pacuare. From here you’re towards the end of the trip, with just a little more than three kilometers from Siquirres.

In 1986, this gorge became the preferred dam site location for the Pacuare River. If the dam had been built, it would have backed up the water all the way to Linda Vista, burying all of the iconic rapids and waterfalls. Fortunately, a furious, multi-year effort to fight the dam eventually won out.
