How to run Trés Islas Rapid

The unofficial start of the “Wild Mile.” Trés Islas is the first chance for those who portaged to get their first good rapid of the day! There is a large island in the center of the river. Follow the water to the left of the island for a rocky class III rapid above the main drop. There is a large boulder on river left that marks the entrance to the main drop. The only hazard is a huge ledge hole in the center top. The pool above is slow and the hole is obvious if you are looking for it. Go right, go left, just don’t go down the center! Once the hole is behind you, get back to the middle to enjoy this fantastic wave train. At low water there is a crashing wave at the bottom that is good to go, but packs a punch!
