Officially an unofficial event, Lochsa River Madness is held over Memorial Weekend each year. For 2025, these dates are May 23 – May 26, 2025.
There is no group, club, or company that puts it on. There is a Facebook page that does post updates and probably acts as the best source of Lochsa River information leading up to the event.

Lochsa River Madness camping
If you’re lucky, you can reserve a campsite at Wilderness Gateway Campground. It will likely be full, which means that every available inch of pullouts along highway 12 will be used for camping. There’s usually a movie night showing carnage reels of previous Lochsa River Madness weekends that is played at Wilderness Gateway Campground.
Lochsa Falls
Hanging out at Lochsa Falls is the spot to be if you’re not on the water. This is where the action is as you’ll see kayak, raft and other craft try to punch through the v-wave, with many being unsuccessful. This is located at road mile 114.1
