About Satan’s Gate Rapid
Satan’s Gate run from center to right. Staying inside this turn will keep you away from the sieve on the left side.
Satan’s Gate is another long Class IV on the Upper Klamath. Just downstream awaits Hell’s Corner Rapid. Unfortunately, this is a tough rapid to scout the whole thing, but you can take a look at a few of the entrance moves from the left side.
You are forced to enter down the middle by shallow rocks on the right and left. Once in the heat of battle, work right to stay away from a nasty sieve on river left. There’s an eddy at the bottom of this rapid that most boaters like to catch, as Hell’s Corner is the next bend of the river. Like the rest of the Upper Klamath, this is a shallow rapid.
